How Winning Speaker Of The Year Made Me A Total Hypocrite

Ambitious Resilience, Belonging, Change & Reinvention, FEATURED, Human First Leadership

My two frustrations about awards ceremonies used to be …

1. The winners who say they don’t know what to say.
2. The winners struggle to say anything because they are crying.

Then I won Speaker Of The Year and I did both!

Karma.

On the night I stumbled to the stage in shock and then stumbled over my thank yous. However, then I realised I was standing in front of hundreds of people all committed to helping others make positive change and the lever moved from me to them.

It moved from being worried about myself to being focused on the people standing and clapping in front of me. These humans who go the extra mile put themselves out there and invite the rest of us into courageous conversations.

Great keynote speaking isn’t about being a great orator. It’s about connecting with others, sharing a compelling new way of being and turning navigating the story from mine to ours to yours.
