How to stop people pleasing!

FEATURED

It’s fair to say I’ve never visited a more glamorous garden than the Jardin Majorelle. Designed by the fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre BergĂ©.

Whilst our tour guide whisked us passed the queue (perks of being with Intrepid) I was surprised to see so many people glammed up in heels and beautiful dresses!

But behind the perfect instagram shots is a tranquil botanical garden, alive with nature and moments of calm. Walking through the gardens inspired deep thought and reflection. This is the perfect place for an intimate group session or time alone for contemplation.

After we stopped for some seriously tasty lemon sorbet and more people-watching, it got me thinking about the pressures of daily life and people-pleasing.

You are your most valuable resource – so make sure you say yes to the mission you’re on. It’s okay to say no to the things that don’t align with that. It’s not selfish – it’s mission critical.

Do you practice saying no enough?

As people pleasers we often jump to a YES before we’ve even processed what we are agreeing to. My tip is to respond with “Sound great! I’ll think about that” if you need time to consider if its what you want to do.

If you’re ready to ‘go for a no’ then try” “Thank you but I’m afraid that doesn’t work for me.”

You’ll be surprised how helpful and compromising people are after you’ve delivered that gem of truth! Share this with someone who is feeling overwhelmed by people-pleasing tendencies!
