Strap yourself in Maureen! Here’s a message from your future self:
Stop living as if you have spare lives hanging up in your wardrobe!
My trick for reminding myself of that daily is to do a ‘pre-mortem’ on myself!
In Bronnie Ware’s fabulous book “The Top Five Regrets of the Dying”, she shares the regrets of her palliative care patients in the last few weeks of their lives. It’s a stunningly beautiful portrait of wisdom in the form of a kind kick up the bottom for those of us sweating the small stuff!
“I wish I hadn’t worked so hard” was there. It wasn’t number one.
“I wish that I’d let myself be happier” was there. It wasn’t number one.
The number one regret of the dying:
” I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”
It made the book a heartbreaking read, BUT it’s also those not at the end of their lives!
What would you do differently if you had the courage to be yourself? What would your life look like if you were just 10% braver today?
I realised for me this would be a commitment to make space for joy! That meant saying no – something I struggled with as a recovering serial people pleaser!
I could share hours of golden nuggets on work-life balance (actually I do! Check out my keynote topics here. When it comes to managing work-life balance, it’s all about learning to say no to some things so you can wholeheartedly say yes to what truly matters.
Today is a great day to kickstart your new 10% braver mindset day and level up your wellbeing and authenticity.
Save this for when you need to ground with a quick pre-mortem of your own life!
